CANDIDATE FILING INFORMATION FOR THE AUGUST 2, 2022 ELECTION

When to File: Filing opens on February 22, 2022, at 8:00 a.m. and closes on March 29, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.

Where to File: Candidate filing is held in the Callaway County Clerk’s Office located at 10 E. 5th Street Room 104, in Fulton, Missouri. (Section 115.349, RSMo.)

Ballot Placement: First-day filers will select a number by random drawing to determine placement on the primary ballot. At the end of the first-day filing, the highest number determines placement on the ballot. After the first day, candidates will be placed on the ballot in order of their filing.

How to File: To appear as a candidate for nomination on the primary ballot, candidates must do the following at the County Clerk’s office during the filing period:

  1. Show Identification;
  2. Complete the Form 5120 Candidate’s Affidavit of Tax Payments for the Department of Revenue;
  3. File a Declaration of Candidacy;
  4. Complete the Notice to Candidate Personal Financial Disclosure for the Missouri Ethics Commission; and
  5. Submit a $50.00 filing fee (cash or check) payable to the County Central Committee for the Party in which they are filing.NOTE: Candidate filing must be completed by 5:00 p.m. on the final day.  Please plan your arrival time accordingly.

Independent Candidates: Individuals interested in filing as an independent candidate for Callaway County Elected Offices must do so by filing a petition with the Callaway County Clerk’s Office by 5:00 p.m. on July 27, 2020. The petition shall be signed by the number of registered voters in the district or county which is equal to at least two percent of the total number of voters who voted at the last election for candidates for the office being sought or is equal to ten thousand voters, whichever is less. The name of each person who files a valid petition for nomination as an independent candidate will be placed on the ballot in the November General Election as an independent candidate. Write-In Candidates: A write-in candidate is a person whose name is not printed on the ballot (Section 115.453(4-6), RSMo.) and who has filed a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate for election to office with the proper election authority prior to 5:00 p.m. on October 26, 2018 (Section 115.453(4), RSMo.) It is not necessary to file a declaration of intent if there are no candidates on the ballot for that office (Section 115.453(4), RSMo.) Deadline for submitting a write-in candidate declaration of intent for the November 3, 2020 election: 5:00 p.m. October 23, 2020 (Section 115.453(4), RSMo). You must file at the Callaway County Clerk’s Office located at 10 E. 5th Street Room 104, in Fulton, Missouri.
