Absentee Voting Information

The State of Missouri does not permit early voting. However, qualified voters who have a legal reason as provided by statute may be able to cast an absentee ballot prior to any given election. All absentee voters must sign an affidavit under penalty of perjury attesting as to their legal reason for voting by absentee ballot.

Absentee Voting

Registered voters who are not able to go to their polling place on election day may vote absentee but must attest to one of the following legal reasons:

If you meet one of the reasons listed above, you can vote absentee in one of the following ways:

    1. Download and complete the Absentee Ballot Request form and submit it to the County Clerk (no later than the second Tuesday preceding the election) by mail, fax, or email.
    2. Visit the County Clerk’s Office to vote absentee in person for up to six weeks preceding an election.
    3. Visit the County Clerk’s Office to vote absentee, no excuse needed, two weeks preceding the election.
    4. Send or fax the following information to the Callaway County Clerk to request a ballot:
      • Full name
      • Specific (legal) reason as to why you are requesting an absentee ballot
      • Residential address
      • Mailing address (where to send ballot, if different than residence)
      • Last 4 digits of your Social Security number
      • Telephone number and/or e-mail address
      • Signature
    5. Send a relative within the second degree by consanguinity or affinity (blood or marriage) to complete an application for an absentee ballot to be mailed to you on your behalf.

In-Person Voting

Any qualified voter wishing to vote absentee in-person may do so in the County Clerk’s Office starting six weeks prior to an election. Two weeks preceding an election, no excuse will be needed. The County Clerk’s Office hours are generally 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the Saturday immediately preceding any election.

Primary Election Reminder

In an August Primary Election, please make sure to note the preferred party ballot that you wish to receive. If no party is listed, we will issue a non-partisan ballot that contains issues only.
