County Sheriff Fees Filed
Now on this day comes Dennis Crane, County Sheriff, and files his report of fees collected by his department for the month of March, 2014. Said report was examined and ordered filed by the Clerk of the Commission.
Courthouse Elevator Maintenance Contract
The Callaway County Commission met with Chris Cerny, Schindler Elevator, to discuss the Courthouse elevator maintenance contract.
The elevator in the Courthouse was installed in 1997 and the County has had a maintenance contract with Schindler since then. The Commission received notice in the mail yesterday stating the quarterly price on the contract will be raised on May 1, 2014 from $809.00 to $825.00.
Mr. Cerny told the Commission that the current contract is outdated. He stated that under a new contract, the services would stay the same, but the quarterly rate would be considerably lower. Mr. Cerny informed the Commission that a contract’s typical maintenance coverage includes both minor and major components of the elevator, bi-annual preventative maintenance, and the annual elevator inspection.
The Commission requested that the new proposed contract be for a period of three years. Also, the Commission would like a separate contract proposed to include a contract for the elevator at the Callaway County Law Enforcement Center, which is currently not under any contract.
Mr. Cerny stated he would email or fax the new contract proposals within the next few days.
The Callaway County Commission met to approve meeting minutes.
Eastern District Commissioner Randy Kleindienst made a motion to approve minutes for the followings dates: March 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 31, 2014.
Western District Commissioner Doc Kritzer seconded the motion.
All in favor…ayes have it.
Conference Call Regarding Burnett School Road Bridge
The Callaway County Commission and Paul Winkelmann, County Road & Bridge Engineer, participated in a conference call with Kim Tarka, Callaway County resident, to discuss the Burnett School Road Bridge. The Burnett School Road Bridge is on the border of the Callaway-Boone County line.
This bridge is in poor condition and repairs were recently estimated to cost approximately $200,000.00 just to maintain a three or five ton weight limit. The bridge is under Boone County inventory, but both Boone and Callaway have shared repair expenses in the past.
Mr. Winkelmann explained to Ms. Tarka that Callaway County has a very limited budget to use for bridges and currently has 15 deficient bridges that need attention.
Ms. Tarka shared her concern with the group about getting an accurate count on the amount of cars that use the bridge daily. A count was last done in March of 2013 that calculated only four or five cars used the bridge daily. A previous count in 1992 calculated 100 cars were using the bridge per day. Ms. Tarka believes that the most recent car count was inaccurate and would like a new count to be completed.
Ms. Tarka then asked the Commission’s advice on what she should pursue next. The Commission advised her that she should get in touch with the Boone County Commission to find out if they plan on doing anything with this bridge. Commissioner Jungermann stated if Boone County is willing to move forward, Callaway County would be willing to discuss the options with them.
