Disaster Preparedness Exercise

The Callaway County Commission participated in a disaster preparedness exercise at the.4-H Expo in Auxvasse, Missouri.

Humane Society Issues

The Callaway County Commission met with representatives from the Callaway County Humane Society. Those in attendance include Sandy Corbett, Nancy Hickman, Nikki Hartley, Doc Kritzer, Callaway County Sheriff Clay Chism, and Callaway County Clerk Denise Hubbard.

The group discussed the animal control issue facing Callaway County.  Ms. Corbett explained that the Callaway County Humane Society has only seven volunteers that donate their time, money, and efforts to the cause.  She claimed that the Humane Society needs Callaway County to back them in order to receive grant funding.

The group also discussed options for temporarily housing animals.  It was suggested that the Humane Society check with the City of Fulton to see if it is willing to rent kennel space at its animal shelter to the Callaway County Humane Society.  Ms. Corbett reported that the Humane Society receives around 30 calls a month from the Callaway County citizens.  She also mentioned that they are doing their best to educate the public about spaying and neutering pets in order to alleviate the overpopulation problem.

Ordered that the Commission adjourn until Monday, July 10, 2017.
