Personal Property Tax Issue

3:15pm

The Callaway County Commission met with Jody Paschal, County Assessor, and Sarah Gladman, County Chief Deputy to Collector, to discuss a personal property tax issue. Presiding Commissioner Jungermann was absent for this meeting. Deb Goldman was present representing the County Clerk’s office.

White Knight is contesting their penalties and interest on 2016 personal property tax bill. They have penalties and interest because they did not submit their 2016 assessment sheet on time so their tax bill was not created until they did so. Mr. Paschal said they wanted their tax bill to be split and only pay part of the bill. The Assessor’s office does not do this you have to pay your bill in full. The Assessor and Collector’s office base their procedures off of state statute and statute is very clear on the penalties and interest that incur when the bill is paid late.

The Callaway County Commission is going to take a short break and reconvene later today.

3:40pm

Western District Commissioner Fischer made a motion to decline the request by White Knight to waive any penalties and interest.

Eastern District Commissioner Kleindienst seconded the motion. He understands the situation White Knight is in, but the Commission is governed by statute and he doesn’t find this case to be an exemption to statute.

All in favor…ayes have it. Motion carries.

Meeting adjourned.

Adjourn

Ordered that the Commission adjourn until Monday, April 3, 2017.
