Business of a general nature was conducted on this day.

Public Hearing on 2017 Budget

The Callaway County Commission met to discuss the 2017 Budget. Those in attendance were Denise Hubbard, County Clerk; Karen Rentschler, County Auditor; Judy Groner, County Circuit Clerk; Christine Kleindienst, County Recorder; Leah Laramore, HR Director; Jody Paschal, County Assessor; and Doc Kritzer. Deb Goldman was present representing the County Clerk’s Office.

The anticipated revenue for 2017 is $14,860,983 and the proposed budget for 2017 is $16,747,061. Some of the bigger expenses for 2017 will be at the Law Enforcement Center. In trying to streamline the 2017 budget the Commission pulled most of the phone lines and shredding costs from individual offices and put the phones under a general Courthouse budget line. Presiding Commissioner Jungermann opened the floor up for discussion.

Mrs. Hubbard expressed that she has concerns about her budget. Her operating budget has been cut 41% from last year. She did not set up a meeting to discuss her budget with the Commission, but she thought she would be made aware of any big changes to her budget. Eastern District Commissioner Kleindienst stated that the line that took the biggest cut is equipment and furniture. Presiding Commissioner Jungermann explained that the Commission’s job is to figure out how to put a budget together and make it work. If there is a need for something for her office she needs to come talk to the Commission and they will see that the need is met. There have been some things done this past year that have not followed procedure and we all need to be working together. 2017 is going to be an off year for the Clerk’s Office, there is only one election. “What equipment do you need?” Mrs. Hubbard replied that she needs some computers.

Eastern District Commissioner Kleindienst made a motion to reconvene the meeting on Tuesday, January 10th, at 9:00am and requests that anyone who has a disagreement with their budget submit it in writing with an explanation to the Commission.

Western District Commissioner Fischer seconded the motion.

All in favor… ayes have it.

Ordered that the Commission adjourn until Monday, January 9, 2017.
