Electronic Security System

Callaway County Commission participated in a conference call with T.J. Rogers, Accurate Controls, to discuss the electronic security system at the Callaway County Jail. Others in attendance were Wesley Bond, County iT Director; Clay Chism, County Chief Investigator; Robbie Harrison, County Jail Administrator. Deb Goldman was present for this meeting to represent the County Clerk’s Office. Eastern District Commissioner Randall Kleindienst was absent for this meeting.

The group discussed the possibility of utilizing the jail’s existing video cameras in an effort to save money on the new system. Mr. Rogers stated that there are some issues with the existing cameras including short save time and overheating issues. Also, if the existing cameras are kept Accurate Controls would have to coordinate with Tech Electronics to get the old cameras on the new system. The new cameras included in the proposal have a 30-day save time and will have more sophisticated capabilities.

Mr. Rogers explained that the new camera system will allow for calling up videos on demand and include four touch screen workstations. New cameras will be added in the dayroom in addition to the existing cameras to prevent blind spots. He also explained that the new system will allow for remote access and a faster response time for system maintenance. Mr. Harrison stated that he is concerned with having audio on the new system. Mr. Rogers stated that audio can be added; he will look into the additional cost to add this.

Finally, Mr. Rogers said that in ordei to finalize the plan for the new system, Accurate Controls will need to visit the site again to complete the design work. Next, Accurate Controls will bid the electric work for the project. Accurate Controls will then build, manufacture, and test the system. Before installation the jail staff will be trained on using the software. Installation is expected to begin in April or May 2017.

Western District Commissioner Doc Kritzer made a motion to accept the proposal from Accurate Controls for a jail console replacement in the amount of $195,000.00, for replacement of the existing video camera system in the amount of $68,500.00, for possibly adding six new cameras in the amount of $4960.00, and for conduit and related material in the amount of $17,000.00.
