Thursday, October 06, 2016
The Callaway County Commission met with the Presiding Commissioner Gary Jungermann, Eastern District Commissioner Randy Kleindienst, and Western District Commissioner Donald Kritzer present.
The Callaway County Commission met with Julia Kaufman, Callaway County Special Services, to discuss office space and related issues. Deborah Goldman was also present for this meeting to represent the County Clerk’s office.
Commissioner Jungermann began by explaining that Callaway County Special Services is growing and needs more space for the staff and clients. All available office space at Special Services is currently being utilized; Ms. Kaufman stated that they have even converted a bathroom and a records room into more office space. Special Services’ Targeted Case Management program is expected to have between 300 and 350 clients by next year. Also, the organization is serving 17 people with its Adult Enrichment Center services, but hopes to increase this number to 40 or 50 with more available space.
Over the years, the University of Missouri Extension has somewhat downsized, which has left two offices in this building vacant. The Extension offices are located in the same building as the Callaway County Health Department. Callaway County is willing to allow Special Services to utilize this space; the Extension staff is also in agreement. Ms. Kaufman stated that Special Services will use this space temporarily while the organization works out its long-term plans for a larger office space. The Extension has given Special Services permission to use the furniture and office equipment in the two offices. However, Special Services will need to arrange for phone lines and phones to be installed and will need to use a hotspot for Internet services.
The Commission will get an agreement drawn up between Callaway County and Special Services to outline the conditions of the arrangement. Also, the Commission will ensure that the offices are painted before the Special Services personnel move there.
