Energy Efficiency at County Facilities
The Callaway County Commission met with Danielle Pointer and Connie English, Sunspire Energy, to discuss the energy efficiency at County facilities. Deborah Goldman was also present for this meeting to represent the County Clerk’s office.
Ms. Pointer began by explaining that she and Donnie Horstman, County Buildings & Grounds Supervisor, visited various County facilities to look at exterior lighting. She then presented the
Commission with a breakdown estimate of current costs and energy usage versus the costs of
replacement LED bulbs and the ultimate savings for the County. Ms. Pointer briefly explained her recommendations for replacement bulbs.
After some discussion, Commissioner Jungermann stated that the County will likely replace the existing light bulbs with LEDs as they expire. Ms. Pointer offered to order an exterior light bulb to try out at a selected facility. She will also email the Commission additional information that she did not have at this meeting.
911 PSAP Equipment Demo
The Callaway County Commission participated in a demonstration regarding 911 PSAP equipment at the Callaway County Emergency Operations Center.
Accounts Payable Issues
The Callaway County Commission met with Karen Rentschler, County Auditor, and Denise Hubbard, County Clerk, to discuss Accounts Payable issues.
The group met one month ago to discuss these issues and set this meeting as an update on progress. Mrs. Rentschler began by stating that she has seen significant improvement and feels good about the direction that A.P. is heading. She also stated that there is still room for improvement; she cited some problems she has come across recently while auditing the run of bills, including missing Purchase Order numbers and incorrect vendors.
Mrs. Hubbard said that observing the auditing process of the Auditor’s office was helpful. Both
Mrs. Hubbard and Mrs. Rentschler stated that the two offices are communicating better about Accounts Payable issues. Mrs. Rentschler also informed the Commission that the outside auditor has reported to her that new federal regulations are expected regarding signatures on A.P. runs for increased accountability. She stated that the Auditor’s office and the Clerk’s office will be working on creating a procedure to meet the potential federal requirements.
Commissioner Kleindienst asked Mrs. Hubbard if she thought the A.P. Clerk would be able to remain focused on improving Accounts Payable during the upcoming elections. Mrs. Hubbard stated that during the elections she has more employees in her office; therefore, the A.P. Clerk can continue to focus on her primary duties. Commissioner Kritzer stated that he would like for the group to meet again for an update in approximately four or six weeks to ensure that
Accounts Payable issues are still improving.
Ordered that the Commission adjourn until Wednesday, June 22, 2016.
