Old Salem Cemetery Issue

9:00am

The Callaway County Commission met with Frances Estes and Tommy Klick to discuss an Old Salem Cemetery issue. Charlotte Rosenstengel was also present for this meeting to represent the County Clerk’s office.

Commissioner Jungermann explained that the Commission was approached several months ago to take the Old Salem Cemetery into County inventory and become trustees. Ms. Estes and Mr. Klick are the current trustees of the cemetery. In order to move forward with this issue, the neighbor of the cemetery, Jeanne Franke, had to approve a 45′ easement so that the cemetery can be accessed by the public. Ms. Franke has signed the easement and the current trustees have signed over the warranty deed so that the County can now take the Old Salem Cemetery into its inventory. Also, the cemetery funds of $21,315.10 will be transferred to the County for any expenses related to Old Salem Cemetery.

Western District Commissioner Doc Kritzer made a motion to accept the warranty deed for Old Salem Cemetery on Route 0. Callaway County will become the trustees of Old Salem Cemetery once the warranty deed is recorded with the Callaway County Recorder of Deeds.

Eastern District Commissioner Randy Kleindienst seconded the motion.

All in favor…ayes have it.

Western District Commissioner Doc Kritzer made a motion to accept the deed of easement from Jeanne Franke, owner of the property adjacent to Old Salem Cemetery. This deed of easement will be recorded with the Callaway County Recorder of Deeds.

Eastern District Commissioner Randy Kleindienst seconded the motion.

All in favor…ayes have it. Court Order #57 — signed.

Court Order #57 — County to be Trustee of Old Salem Cemetery

Now on this day, the Callaway County Commission does hereby agree that Callaway County will be the trustee for Old Salem Cemetery. A deed of easement has been signed by Jeanne Franke, owner of the property adjacent to Old Salem Cemetery, which authorizes a 45-foot by 125-foot easement to allow public access to the cemetery. A warranty deed has been signed over to the County by Frances Estes and Tommy Klick, the previous trustees of the Old Salem Cemetery.

The deed of easement and the warranty deed will be recorded in the office of the Callaway County Recorder of Deeds.

Energy Efficient Lighting

10:00am

The Callaway County Commission met with Connie English and Danielle Pointer of Sunspire Energy to discuss energy efficient lighting. Charlotte Rosenstengel was also present for this meeting to represent the County Clerk’s office.

First, Ms. English demonstrated Sunspire’s LED lighting, which is magnetized for easier installation. Commissioner Kritzer then explained that about a year ago the County purchased some LED lights to try out in certain places in the Courthouse. Those lights have yet to be replaced, as they are still working well. The Commission further explained that while LED lights are a better product than traditional fluorescent lights, the cost for a complete replacement in all County facilities would be too much at one time.

The group then discussed some problem areas at County facilities that should be looked at for replacement lighting, such as outside lighting and the big Courtroom in the Courthouse. After some discussion, the Commission informed Ms. Pointer that the County’s Maintenance Supervisor will contact her to schedule a time to look at these areas. Ms. Pointer stated that Sunspire can conduct surveys on County facilities to determine the savings that LED lights could have for the County.

Adjourn

Ordered that the Commission adjourn until Friday, May 20, 2016.
